It is believed that artificial intelligence (AI) will reshape the job market and the same was lately expressed by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. He shared in a blog post that the shifts will occur more gradually than many predict. AI is expected to bring significant changes to labor markets. He added that most jobs will change more slowly than most people think. However, he emphasized that a lack of tasks for humans is not anticipated.
It was explained that AI will replace certain tasks and simultaneously to enable workers to focus on more creative as well as meaningful activities. Human abilities will be amplified by AI. It was further suggested that the future generations may view today’s work as trivial and something much like how jobs from a few centuries ago are perceived now. However, it was highlighted that society has always adapted to technological shifts and the same is being predicted with AI.
Altman sees a big change coming to society. AI will help in areas like healthcare and education. He believes that the tasks that we once thought were impossible can now be done with the help of AI.
However, he also raised concerns about fairness. If access to AI and the technology needed to run it isn’t made available to everyone.
He credited advances in deep learning for expanding the tasks of AI. It can solve more complicated problems. He also argued that challenges may come with the expansion and careful planning is required to handle the social as well as economic changes associated with it.
His message is cautiously optimistic and he believes AI can transform society and improve lives. However, the risks are to be carefully managed and its benefits are to be shared fairly.
