Space is vast and it is expanding too. It has always captivated human minds. We always try to understand what is happening there. One phenomenon that has puzzled most is the dark energy, which is responsible for expansion of the universe. However, the puzzle can be solved to some extent. It is learned that artificial intelligence (AI) may shed light on it.

Promising results have been witnessed in a recent study led by Niall Jeffrey from University College London. The team has developed a detailed map of the universe and it is based on the observations of visible as well as dark matter. It offers unprecedented insights into the mystery of dark energy.

The dark energy is perplexing as it dominates the energy budget of the universe and this account to 70% of the total energy. Dark energy exerts a mysterious influence. It pushes galaxies apart at an ever-increasing rate. Dark matter makes 25% of the universe and our understanding of the space is limited to just 5%.

The use of AI has doubled the precision in measuring dark energy. It simultaneously has reduced the need for additional observations. Creating such a comprehensive map would now have been without the help of AI as a vast amount of data collection is required.

However, the quest to understand the secrets of dark energy is not over. The leading explanation for dark energy, the cosmological constant, poses its own set of challenges. Described as “the worst prediction in the history of physics,” the cosmological constant’s value deviates significantly from theoretical expectations.

Researchers have been able to find valuable insights into the evolution of the universe with the help of AI. Leveraging it can help in identifying complex patterns. Scientists can thereafter refine their understanding of cosmic phenomena.
