Cemex Ventures Fuels Carbon Capture Tech with KC8 Investment

Sustainability is a new campaign and should be implemented in our modern lifestyle. Cemex is working in the same notion. It has lately invested in Australia-based startup KC8 Capture Technologies through Cemex Ventures. It aims to scale up carbon capture technology. It is to mainly focus in marking the largest project of its kind for KC8.


KC8 offers solution to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the construction industry. The approach is different from that of traditional carbon capture methods that rely on harmful solvents. Its proprietary solvent is non-toxic and non-volatile as well. It ensures no environmental impact. It promises to capture up to 95% of CO2 and thereafter optimize energy efficiency by 15%. It is claimed to reduce operating costs by 50%. Hence, it is now an attractive option for heavy industries like cement production.

Cemex is set to test the technology of KC8 at one of its leading cement plants. The target is to capture more than 100 tons of CO2 per day. The goal is greater than the current projects by 10x. The collaboration supports the journey of Cemex to carbon neutrality. It simultaneously also highlights the commitment to sustainable investments.

Gonzalo Galindo, Head of Cemex Ventures, expressed his excitement about promoting the growth of KC8 and finding synergies to revolutionize the construction industry.

KC8 executive director Greg Ross highlighted the potential success and further collaboration enabled by the support of Cemex.

Cemex is now positioned as a leader in carbon capture with respect to the construction sector. It aims to reduce direct greenhouse gas emissions and simultaneously align with its Future in Action sustainability goals. The investment also advances its climate action initiatives. A new standard is now set for sustainability in the industry.
