A startup in has unveiled a remarkable project. It is reshaping the landscape of sustainable agriculture. It is Global Green Coir and led by Anees Ahmed, who is a visionary researcher and his journey into the world of coco peat started at a very young age when he fascinated gardening.

Ahmed’s fascination with coco peat was sparked by the involvement of his father in Tamil Nadu’s coir fiber industry. He holds a degree in Biotechnology and has a deep-rooted passion for environmental conservation. He understands the properties and applications of the often-overlooked by-product of coconut husks.

He unearthed coco peat that is usually considered as waste and possesses a myriad of qualities of being an invaluable asset in agriculture. The peat simultaneously has the ability to retain water and provide optimal aeration as well as maintain a neutral pH. It resists diseases too. Its renewability make it an ideal medium for horticultural and agricultural activities.

Ahmed established Global Green Coir in 2012 and his mission was to repurpose coco peat into eco-friendly products. From pots to bricks and grow bags, his startup ingeniously transforms the coco peat into practical solutions for farmers as well as gardeners.

However, Ahmed’s journey was not without challenges. He initially was met with skepticism. He persevered and determined to demonstrate the untapped potential of the material. His efforts paid off as Global Green Coir and gained recognition both locally as well as internationally. It paved the way for a more sustainable approach to agriculture.

The startup now stands at the forefront of innovation. The coco peat market is expected to reach $5.26 billion by 2030.
