Artificial intelligence is supposed to play a very important role in our daily life and this is the reason hundreds of startups are working on it in one way or other. Gnani AI is a good example. It is India’s first voice-first small language model (SLM) for vernacular languages. It has lately secured a $3 million investment from tech holding company Info Edge. It is a significant milestone for the startup. The fresh capital will help it in paving the path of its ambitious expansion plans.

Gnani.AI CEO Ganesh Gopalan said that their approach is unique and they are blending voice as well as text models to create a multimodal experience. However, their current focus remains on voice and text.

Gnani AI is pioneering in voice-based small language models. It is training the models with millions of hours of proprietary audio datasets and billions of conversations in various Indian languages. As of now, the model supports 12 Indian languages and caters to a diverse linguistic demographic. They have extended their support to English and Spanish in the US. It has developed five specialized models and these are basically tailored for the banking, finance, security and insurance (BFSI) sectors.

Gnani AI has a unique feature to quickly fine-tune models based on specific enterprise requirements. Gopalan said that creating an SLM for the BFSI sector is one thing, but the true value lies in customizing a model for a unique data of a company. They have collaborated with enterprises for it to enhance the models to fit their exact needs.

Gnani AI is well-positioned to expand its footprint and the new capital is to further refine its models. Their focus on voice-first technology that is combined with the ability to customize solutions for enterprises has set them apart in the segment.
