Recently, Meta has extensively introduced a new method that is specially launched for the users of Meta to verify their age on its Facebook Dating service. These days, Facebook is experimenting with several ways, including an AI face scanner. This AI face scanner aims to allow users of the platform’s dating service to verify their age.
By the post’s medium, Meta’s introduction is made by saying that it would start prompting users on Facebook Dating to verify that they’re over 18 if the platform suspects a user is underage.
Using this, the users can verify their age by sharing a selfie video that Facebook shares with a third-party business or by uploading a copy of their ID. The company, Yoti, utilizes facial cues to determine a user’s age without identifying them.
As per Meta, the new age verification systems will help stop children from accessing features only meant for adults. It doesn’t reflect any requirement for adults to verify their age on Facebook Dating.
The US social media giant used a company named- Yoti for other age verification purposes, including vetting Instagram users who attempt to change their birthdate to make them 18 or older.
As per The Verge, the system is only somewhat accurate for some people. The data of Yoti reflected that its accuracy is worse for “female” faces and people with darker complexions.
In the previous year, Instagram made a reveal of initiating prompting users to fill in their birthday details. The prompts were designed in such a way that they could ascertain how old users were on Instagram and prevent content that needs to be more suitable for young people from appearing on their feeds. The prompts could initially be dismissed, but Meta eventually made it compulsory for users who wanted to continue using Instagram.
