From Robotics Enthusiast to Startup Founder: An IIT Madras Story

A young student from Chennai dreamt of being a part of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras. His father was an engineer and so he had a natural inclination towards technology. He dreamt of studying Robotics there and the foundation of it was set at an early stage of his academic years.

The path was not easy and it involved years of his dedication towards clearing the JEE. He started preparations for it when he was just in Class 6. He faced intense competition the COVID-19 lockdown disrupted his preparations to some extent. However, he was highly focused in his study plan and this led to success in the JEE Advanced. He thereafter secured admission to IIT Madras in Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering even though this was not his dream field.

He arrived on campus in 2022 and it was after a year of online classes. He joined the ‘Raftar Formula Racing’ team in the first year that allowed hands-on learning through designing and racing electric cars. Late nights in the lab and problem-solving on the go taught him practical skills.

His innovative spirit led to the creation of a new project team that was focused on marine technology. It resulted in the participation of prestigious international competitions such as the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge and the Njord Challenge in Norway. The experiences strengthened a commitment to entrepreneurship and innovation.

Balancing academics and project work was challenging to him, but his excitement managed in overcoming all the hurdles that came across. The campus life at IIT Madras simultaneously also added a charm to his life and seriousness equipped with midnight tea runs, social bonding and supportive peer environment.
