Google has lately collaborated with the Government of Tamil Nadu and it marks a significant milestone in the journey of the state toward becoming a tech-driven economy. The primary focus is on artificial intelligence (AI) and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). The partnership is said to aim at revolutionizing the local tech landscape as well as empower millions of people.
Core of the partnership is to equip two million young individuals with AI skills through India’s upskilling program named Naan Mudhalvan initiative.
The collaboration is a testament to the commitment of the state to become a hub of advanced electronics and AI. It is set to become a crucial player in the global tech manufacturing scene with Google’s plan to manufacture Pixel smartphones in partnership with Foxconn at the former Nokia campus in Sriperumbudur. The manufacturing of drones through Google’s subsidiary Wing LLC further strengthens the position.
Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s visit to the US and thereafter a deal with Google highlights the proactive approach of Tamil Nadu in attracting foreign investment and strengthening a conducive environment for technological innovation. The recent Rs 400 crore investment from US-based Ohmium International to set up a manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu is another step towards becoming a preferred destination for global tech giants.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Google and the Tamil Nadu government is a roadmap for the future. Industries Minister T.R.B. Rajaa said that they are adopting technology as well as harnessing its power to propel Tamil Nadu into the future. The sentiment is at the core of the Tamil Nadu-Google collaboration.
