The Indian government launches the DigiYatra facility. This facility is available at three airports across the country. With this latest established facility, passengers can now access a seamless entry for their travel at the airports. This facility makes the utilization of facial recognition technology. From December 1, the DigiYatra facility will be available at IGI airport in the national capital, Kempegowda International Airport in Bangalore, and Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport in Varanasi.
Jyotiraditya Scindia, the Civil Aviation Minister, took the decision to launch the DigiYatra facility at the airport in Delhi on December 1. Minister stated that the new check-in facility would ensure the safety of passenger data as it will be stored in an encrypted format.
The service will be available at the onboard airlines in the initial phase. The passengers taking domestic flights could avail of this facility at Delhi, Bangalore, and Varanasi airports. Only three airlines, including Air India, Vistara, and IndiGo, are part of this DigiYatra.
In August 2022, the DigiYatra program was launched for the Hyderabad International Airport for three months. Meanwhile, the facility is scheduled at four more airports in Hyderabad, Pune, Vijayawada, and Kolkata.
Shortly, the services will be extended to all major airports in the country. There is also an availability of application of DigiYatra for the users of Android and ioS.
To avail of the benefits of the services, a passenger will be required to register their details on the application of DigiYatra. The boarding will be scanned by utilizing Aadhaar-based validation and an image of the passenger. The passenger can check in at the airport gate using the scanned boarding pass barcode and facial recognition.
However, other processes, including security checking and clearance, will be conducted as per the previous norms.
