Big Data, is that new tool that is shining bright and has made its path into every place of every fortune 1000 companies. While IBM uses big data to solve world issues, the analytics organizations use this tool to foretell outcomes. The policy decisions made at the white house are obtained using big data. Advanced analytics is widely used in professional sports. Major telecasts are the biggest example of it.

Analytics into game-zone

Big data is used in games like football to derive the opponent tendencies. In baseball, It is used for knowing pitch locations. It is not surprising to hear big data has slowly but certainly made progressing developments into the gaming sector. But, Golf is one game where big data is largely used. From the last 5 years, many kinds of research have been made as to how this new tool analytics can greatly make a difference to the whole game.

Nothing like a golfer

Big data is prevalent on all the telecasts made by PGA. Before a golfer putts from some 23 feet, a graphical representation arrives of how much percentage of change is there for making that putt. It gives access to spin, total distance, ball speed, swing speed, carry distance and a lot more details. No other sports athlete has such access to data like the professional golfer has. Let us have a look at how big data and technology can show immediate improvement in the golf game.

Custom fitting

It was in the past that one had to select a golf club by taking some swings, observing shaft stiffness and then conclude if they are going to join that club. Thanks to the incredible evolution of science. There are so many software technologies available to show the best fitting equipment. A fitter can use as many as 20 significant data points to determine the perfect clubs that can suit their swing, size and game. These custom fitting master equipment observe the ball speed, smash factor, swing speed, swing plane, shot dispersion, spin, landing angle, launching angle, distance and a few more key points that aid in the fitting process. In a few fitting software, there will be a shaft optimizer that can provide recommendations on the suitable shafts. This data is shown by observing the three swings done by the user and the ease they had with it. All the optimizers use certain algorithms by observing some thousands of speeds and swing tempos to conclude the right match for the user. Big data has helped golfers to fit into the best-suited equipment that can help them play the game better.

Swing caddie

The driving range is used as a method to loosen up by most amateur golfers. And guess what? Even a simple stretch can help reach that goal. The range sessions have become more impactful with a technology that has big data analytics hidden in it. Swing caddie is one among these. This is a technology that is seated behind the ball, while you swing. It tracks every shot and provides potential data like loft angle, ball speed, distance, smash factor, swing speed and a lot more. It is just a Trackman that came without the heavy price tag. It can provide statistics daily for each club. The more data you are equipped with the more enhancements you can do to your game. And more confidently you can execute the shot that is required on a golf course.

Acros 360 and Blast

While caddies play a major role in the success of a touring professional. Acros 360 is designed to meet the needs of amateurs. On the grip end of every shaft, this technology is fit to capture information about every swing. All the information recorded is stored on the app of your mobile, allowing you to analyse every hit. It tells how often the target was hit from every distance at each club. It teaches one, how much percentage of the time if they have missed on left, right, long and short. The application over the mobile gives full visibility on the hazards of the golf course the user is playing. It is like you play Moneyball on each shot. The back end analytics made on how efficiently a golfer can enhance their game is just on the tap of your mobile application. Along with Acros 360, there is another application for interactive putters. It is the Blast app. This is also fit on the end of a putter. It can track every putt of yours and store it in the application. One can even videotape a putt.

GPS finders

Laser finders and smartwatches are very common these days in every golfer bag. Now one need not walk for yardages or search for s good stake of 150 yards. The latest watches have high technological features and configurations. These watches are loaded with a variety of courses and practice games. So, a simple glance at the wrist of yours can give you the data of what distance is required for a putt. Along with the GPS finders, there are laser finders too. These technologies use laser for shooting the targets. They give a golfer the required and estimated distance that is down to a particular yard. They also come with information on slope adjustments. That means these finders are armed to take the landscape details into account if it is downhill or uphill. But, a point that needs to be remembered here is, it is illegal to use this kind of big data analytics to accomplish a tournament.

With new systems improving and the efficiency of enhanced data collection, the statistical data has created new methods to train, play and analyse a sport in a more detailed manner. Big data analytics has helped a golfer to understand their game whilst highlighting all those improvement areas. Whether you are a professional or amateur, data is certainly a part of modern golf. Big data is in a commendable position to help make a game-changing decision. How about changing your game with the help of this tool?
