With the wave of digitization sweeping over enterprises at a shocking pace- companies need to realize the dire need for innovative alternatives to the conventional cybersecurity solutions in use today.

Unfortunately, however, as soon as enterprises start prioritizing cybersecurity, they often tend to lose sight of their business goals, which is essentially the pivot point on which the future of the entire organization rests on. Taking into consideration the importance of balancing cybersecurity goals with the entrepreneurial aspect of running a business- the integration of big data within the cloud can prove to be extremely lucrative for organizations in the long run.

In the digital age, running a business effectively is much different than what it used to be a decade ago. Moreover, the threat landscape is only expected to evolve and grow more sophisticated with each passing day. Utilizing the benefits offered by big data, and combining it with cloud computing ticks all the right boxes, and allows for an organization to harness the power of technological advancements, resulting in cost-effective operations.

Why Does The Integration of Big Data Into Cloud Computing Matter?

On paper, our thesis for the inclusion of big data into modern-day cloud computing systems seems redundant and, to some, it might even seem downright stupid. Quite on the contrary, however, we believe that big data and cloud computing are a match made in heaven, with features that compliment each other, and help an organization achieve its business goals perfectly.

However, before we can get into the multiple ways that the integration of big data into cloud computing works, let’s have a look at the potential benefits that big data has to offer individually.

Big Data:

If you have the slightest interest in the recent happenings in the cybersecurity realms, chances are you’re already familiar with what big data. However, if you’ve been reclusing on a deserted island, big data is exactly what the name implies it to be.

Simply put, big data refers to a large and complex data set. The data set is so complex that any traditional data-processing application fails to work with it. Usually, big data sets consist of both structured and unstructured data, which accounts for the “variety” in the big data, and enables enterprises to gain valuable insight into their business operations. Additionally, the large “volume” and high “velocity,”  that make up the defining characteristics of big data provide useful analytics to companies, which can help boost the overall growth of an organization.

As far as big data is concerned, the ever expanding the Internet of Things (IoT) ensures that the amount of big data will only grow, which provides companies with an endless supply of data to leverage and reap benefits from. And no we’re not the only ones who have noticed the potential that big data has, since a research conducted by Accenture revealed that a staggering 79% of surveyed executives believed that companies that fail to embrace big data are bound to lose their ‘competitive position.’ Moreover, the same survey revealed that 83% of the surveyed company execs had started big data projects, in the hope that the collected insights would help their enterprise climb to the top of the industrial totem pole.

Another highly important statistic that points towards the potential of big data in furthering an organization’s business incentives, is the finding of the survey conducted by New Vantage Partners which reveals the highly success rates of big data integration, particularly as far as reduced costs, and new avenues for innovation are concerned.

What Are Some Ways That The Integration of Big Data With Cloud Computing Helps Enterprises?

Now that we’ve talked about the individual benefits offered by big data in helping an enterprise accomplish their business goals, it is critical that we consider the benefits that the integration of cloud computing with big data has to offer to organizations, which includes the following:

  • Reduced cost analytics: Perhaps the greatest advantage that the inclusion of big data offers enterprises, from a business standpoint is that it reduces the amount of investment needed on analytics process. Moreover, since most cloud computing systems favour a pay-as-you-go model, enterprises can save a lot of resources.
  • Improved scalability: A commonly encountered problem with big data is it’s storage, which is where a cloud computing system can prove to be miraculous. Not only does a cloud storage system solve problems of scalability, it makes the sharing of the insights collected from the big data easy as well.
  • Fosters and improves disaster recovery: Considering the shocking number of breaches and hacks in recent years, the need for better data recovering strategies becomes blatantly obvious. Cloud computing storage systems provide a much better alternative to “legacy systems,” since they make the retrieval of data much easier, and faster than traditional methods of data recovery.
  • Promotes an environment of innovation: Last, but certainly not least, the integration of big data into cloud computing systems gives rise to an environment of innovation and agility. Although, most companies tend to forget about the importance of an innovative environment, relying on a culture that promotes the analysis of data is bound to award companies with the confidence needed to steer their company in new avenues, which ultimately leads to the growth of a company.

Concluding Words:

At the very end of the article, we’d like to make one thing clear. Contrary to what many cynical cybersecurity journalists would have you believe, big data definitely does not equal to big chaos. Although the integration of big data into an enterprise’s cloud computing system might be too much to handle for some employees- over the course of time, however, enterprises will be able to see the results in the form of a data-driven and efficient workforce!
