The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (I&B) is set to implement Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) technologies to monitor as well as predict news trends. The primary aim is to enhance public engagement and stay ahead of emerging media narratives.

The Ministry outlined its plan to develop an AI-ML-powered platform capable of analyzing historical media data to forecast future trends in a recent Expression of Interest (EoI). The predictive tool is said to help the government refine its communication strategies and deploy citizen-oriented content effectively. The dashboard is to provide actionable insights to address misinformation, implement corrective measures and simultaneously improve public outreach.

The platform is learned to support multilingual translation and voice localization in 12 primary Indian languages. It will also accommodate 10 additional languages like Kashmiri, Nepali and Sanskrit to provide extensive language support for reaching diverse audiences. The system will offer real-time monitoring, customizable alerts and integration with social media to track engagement and discussions.

The platform will include capabilities such as translation, transcription, transliteration and localization. It will scan more than 100 print and 4,000 online publications, monitor more than 200 YouTube accounts and provide updates four times daily across multiple media formats.

The design, development and implementation of the integrated system will be outsourced to a qualified agency. The selected contractor will manage the platform for an initial one-year period and with an option for a one-year extension.

The AI-powered dashboard will enable the government to anticipate trends and allow proactive responses to emerging issues as well as enhance public trust. The system will also feature an AI-powered decision support system and offer recommendations for countermeasures based on media feedback. The platform will allow users to upload text and video content with translated outputs available for download.
