The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and the IIM Calcutta Innovation Park have lately organized the MeitY TIDE 2.0 Northeast Techathon-X4. It is a competition that is designed to support ICT-based business ideas in the Northeastern regions of India. The initiative basically focuses on empowering aspiring entrepreneurs by providing them a platform to showcase innovative solutions.
The event was held in Nagaland on September 9 and 10, 2024, and in Mizoram on September 12 and 13, 2024. It attracted participants from diverse sectors including healthcare, education, agriculture, financial inclusion, infrastructure, clean energy and emerging technologies. The event is part of the larger TIDE 2.0 program that looks for strengthening 2,000 technology startups across India.
The eligibility required was that the participants were Indian citizens and had a Proof of Concept (PoC) ready for a solution related to national priority area. The focus areas of the competition include some of the most critical sectors in India.
TIDE 2.0 is an ambitious initiative of MeitY and particularly attracted startups working on emerging technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain and robotics. The program is basically designed to boost innovations and simultaneously provide the young entrepreneurs with the required resources as well as mentorship.
The Techathon-X4, MeitY and IIM Calcutta Innovation Park are providing an important platform for entrepreneurs in the Northeast to transform their ideas into viable businesses. The competition highlights the commitment of government to encourage entrepreneurship and bring technology-driven solutions.
Initiatives like the Northeast Techathon are important in nurturing the next generation of technology-driven entrepreneurs. Such events are to pave the path for a more inclusive as well as innovative startup ecosystem across India.
