In 2018, a supercomputer from India too around 39th position in the list of Top500, the highest ever position which is as of now achieved by India. And id an ambitious project by the Center goes as planned, in just within the next five years an army of 20000 technology experts from India will going to form one of the world strongest human networks to handle the challenge of supercomputers.
Launched in 2015, NSM is the only dedicated programme which is launched to boost up the India supercomputing capacity.
The Rs 4500 crore, the seven-year-long programme is spearheaded by the Center for the Development of Advanced Computing and Indian Institute of Science, under the Department of Science and Technology and Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.
As a part of a programme, a network of more than 70 supercomputers will be going to be installed in the multiple national level research and academic institutions. These machines will be going to be a part of the National supercomputing grid over the National Knowledge Network, which will have the wide range of applications in the domains of weather prediction, atomic energy simulations, aerospace engineering, molecular dynamics, computational biology, finance, big data and much more.
Largest trained manpower for supercomputers
Under the NSM, the long-term plan is to build up a strong base of 20000 skilled persons who will be going to be equipped to handle the complexities of supercomputers. They will now also going to be trained over the next five years and will also become one of the largest over dedicated human resources bases equipped to use these mighty computers.
