As a part of simply enhancing the capabilities of India’s Defence, scientists have been also quietly working on all terrain AI enabled robots that may also eventually patrol the borders of our country.

Some of the scientists from the defense PSU Central Research Laboratory and Bharat Electronics Limited in the Bangalore, who began on his first responder robot in the year December 2018, are now confident enough of having the first prototype by the end of December 2019.

BEL CMD Gowthama MV told in a report: “AI will change how some critical operations are conducted by the armed forces, and our robot will even be able to patrol the borders. Moreover, the secretary of the defense production, Ajay Kumar has revealed that the prototype of this robot along with some other AI enabled products from the BEL will going to be ready by the end of this year, and there has been no such type of specific requirement from the armed forces sent to the BEL so far.

“As Steve Jobs said, users, don’t know what they want until you show it to them. As a company committed to R&D, we want to be able to show capabilities that can become useful for armed forces, this is one such project,” Gowthama said.

He revealed BEL has started putting together preliminary requirements for implementation and design of the project and has already conducted training programmes to build competency in the field of Artificial Intelligence.

Some of the global IT companies which include the Northrop Grumman Corporation, Thales Group, Mitsubishi, Irobot Corporation, General Dynamic Corporation, BAE Systems, have also been working on building the first responder border patrol robots.
