India is gradually witnessing growing skills in space technology. Bengaluru-based startup AkashaLabdhi is lately gearing up to launch its ‘expandable space habitats’ by 2027. The launching will be implemented in collaboration with SpaceX.
AkashaLabdhi is a brainchild incubated at IIT Roorkee. It is working in the creation of expandable space habitats. The structures are designed to house space tourists, astronauts and researchers. It promises to revolutionize how we live and work in space. AkashaLabdhi has branded the project as a ‘home among the stars.’ The habitats are blend of innovation and mainly focuses on sustainable space living.
The expertise of AkashaLabdhi spans cutting-edge signal processing, seamless automation and robust power electronics as well. All these make it a versatile engineering powerhouse. The company proclaims its ability to tackle modern engineering challenges with comprehensive solutions.
Antariksh HAB is the core of the project. It is a prototype model of the expandable habitat. It boasts an expandable shell that is particularly designed to provide exceptional protection against orbital debris as well as radiation. It can also be used for microgravity experiments, satellite maintenance and orbital logistics storage. It further promise for long-term lunar surface exploration and of course reflect a forward-looking perspective.
CEO Siddarth Jena said that the space habitat will need about seven days to inflate fully after reaching the destination. They are in talks with SpaceX to book a slot for the mission.
Apart from all these, AkashaLabdhi is a true example of spirit of innovation and determination in India’s space ambitions. The project showcases India’s technological capabilities and simultaneously highlights the potential for global partnerships in exploring the final frontier.
