Indian Startups to Transform Quantum Technology space with New Government Backing

It is a significant move in the quantum technology space and focused to make India a global leader in the segment. Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh lately announced selection of eight startups for support under the Department of Science and Technology’s National Quantum Mission (NQM). It highlights the commitment of India towards advancing quantum science. The startups were chosen after a rigorous selection process.

The chosen startups include Bengaluru-based QNu Labs and it received ₹25 crores for work in quantum-safe communication. CEO Sunil Gupta explained that their technology is already being deployed in both India and abroad. He sees being recognized by the NQM as an honor and also a significant responsibility to deliver on their promises.

Another standout startup is Prenshiq Pvt. Ltd. from Delhi and it is focused on developing precision diode lasers which are important for quantum communication. CTO Bodhaditya Santra said that they overcame infrastructure challenges and created prototypes to reduce reliance on imported components. CEO Suranita Kanjilal added that their innovations save costs and also support national defense as well as sustainability by enhancing India’s technological capabilities.

Pune-based QuPrayog Pvt. Ltd. is working on optical atomic clocks which are crucial for deep-space communication, defense and financial transactions. CTO Dr. Jay Mangaonkar emphasized how these innovations would reduce India’s dependency on foreign products. He added that they are helping India to become a leader in the global quantum space.

Dr. Singh highlighted how quantum technologies have the potential to revolutionize industries. He said that the startups are solving technical challenges and simultaneously also inspiring a new generation of innovators.
