The Naukri JobSpeak Index unveiled that the recruitment for AI-related positions, as well as roles in healthcare, hospitality, and FMCG (Fast Moving Consumer Goods), has seen substantial growth in January this year.

White-collar employment in India reached 2,455 in January 2024, marking a modest one percent increase compared to the previous month but showing an 11 percent decline from the figures of the same period last year.

The report also revealed that jobs like Machine Learning Engineers and Full Stack AI Scientists are in high demand. Compared to last year, these roles grew by 46 percent and 23 percent, respectively. Traditional AI roles like Data Scientists also remained in demand.

However, the growth in AI-related jobs contrasts with a modest 1 percent increase in overall IT employment in January 2024 compared to the previous month. On a year-on-year basis, hiring in the IT sector saw a significant 19 percent decrease from the peak levels of January 2023.

The healthcare sector witnessed a notable 7 percent increase in hiring compared to the previous year, with administrative roles experiencing the highest demand. Similarly, FMCG sectors witnessed a 5 percent growth in new job offerings in January 2024 compared to the same period in 2023.

Conversely, sectors like BPO (Business Process Outsourcing) and Insurance witnessed a decline in hiring by 16 percent and 8 percent, respectively. Additionally, the education and retail sectors experienced a year-on-year contraction of 7 percent each.

The way jobs are changing shows that there are more focus on advanced stuff like AI and a steady need for healthcare services, even as the economy changes in India.
