Swedish united app who is for phone call identification named Truecaller has acquired Mumbai- based payment startup Chilli, endorsed as ‘WhatsApp for money’ to make payment strong in India. The financials of deal remained unknown.
After this acquisition, Truecaller will now roll out the credits and payments from Indian user in upcoming months.
Chillr is a startup which enables their user to transfer money directly without any hustle to their contacts which they have in their phone book. Chillr was founded in 2013 by Anoop Sankar, Lishoy Bhaskaran, Mohamad Galib and Sony Joy. Customers can easily pay and recharge their phone bills, DTH TV subscriptions and data cards by using this app. Chillr got evident investors such as Sequoia Capital and Blume Ventures. Chillr raised $7.5 million in two separate rounds in the year 2014 and 2015.
After the acquisition, Chillr’s whole team together with founder, co-founder and executives will be uniting with Truecaller. The present chief executive of Chillr Sony Joy going to be the vice president at Truecaller pay, even the whole will be taken by Truecaller. The main headquarter of Truecaller at Stockholm will be doubling its team size in India.
Around 150 million users Truecaller have in India presently. Truecaller have 300 partners in country, where it is going to grip its payment features. “In the upcoming month we want ourselves to be at top three payment ecosystems in the country” said Sony Joy.
Chillr was functioning in 2013 only but Chillr released the app in February 2015. The app is convenient in transferring money from one person to another only if you have the contact number of there person in you phone book and there is no need of having bank details of that particular person.
Remarkably before Chillr, Sony Joy used to have a value added service and B2B mobile solutions company named MobME, at that time he was in college in 2006. Chillr was developed like MobME only MobME got best NASSCOM Innovation Award in the field of startup in 2009.
After then Chillr upshot as a unique body ‘Backwater Technologies (P) Ltd in December 2014 who won India’s best private bank HDFC bank, became its first bank partner.
“With this collaboration with Chillr, we want our customers to increase their plans for mobile payments,” said Zarringhalam adding to this he said users can easily pay there bills with no matter of time.
