Intro about Soham Thacker. idea behind Gamerji?
Soham Thacker is the CEO & Co-Founder of Gamerji, India’s leading esports tournament platform. He moved to India after spending more than a decade in the US which included education and 5 years of corporate experience.
“I have been a gamer for 20 years now. I was an avid gamer but I never had the right platform to express or compete as a gamer. I realised that this gap still persists. Most gamers still play games in their bedrooms, outside colleges, or outside cafes. They don’t have a platform where they can improvise their skills or find like-minded people, socialise and connect and feel like a community. To address that gap I established Gamerji in 2019. The platform helps you to participate in virtual tournaments, build your gaming stats and participate in pro-leagues.”

How is the online gaming industry growing in INDIA?
A KPMG report said the number of online gamers in India grew from nearly 250 million gamers in 2018 to about 400 million by the mid of 2020. Growing steadily for the last five years, it is expected to treble in value and reach $3.9 billion by 2025.
What are the hurdles for growth?
- Lack of awareness about Esports in India
- No governing body regulating the industry
- No accessibility to high end devices used to play in major leagues
How did Gamerji achieve a 7x rise in traffic since 2020?

Due to the pandemic in 2020 we saw a massive surge in our user base. We went from 50,000-70,000 to nearly 30 lakh users on the platform today. From having just 2 games on the platform, we now have 18 titles and host 300 tournaments daily all this while making deep in-roads in tier 2 & 3 cities in India. We hired extra resources and better servers to manage the load and strategically integrated more games onto our platform.
What is the next stage/area of expansion for Gamerji?
We have launched in the MIddle east with 4 games and host 30 cross-border tournaments daily. We are targeting 250,000 playing and paying users in the Middle East. Gamerji is also looking to expand to SouthEast Asia by later this year.
Long term plans
Gamerji is looking to leverage upon the traction it has achieved in India to host cross border tournaments across different geographies. It aims to be the first instantaneous tournament platform.
