Lyft and Motional introduced a brand new all-electric autonomous vehicle in Las Vegas on the network of Lyft. The revealed plan is all about offering a fully driverless service in the city in the year 2023. The Hyundai Ioniq 5-based car will be introduced in such a way that it does not require any driver to drive the car ride-hail operation.
By the utilization of the Lyft app, the customers can avail themselves of the driverless taxi option. They’ll be able to start a ride or contact customer support by the medium of an app by sitting inside the car. The all-new all-electric autonomous vehicle is the first fully electric autonomous vehicle on the Lyft network. Since 2018, Las Vegas Lyft riders have been able to request an autonomous vehicle with the basic necessities of human safety drivers. From now, the Ioniq 5-based car will include dual safety operators.
On the initial basis, the service of the driverless ride will begin from Vegas, as mentioned by Lyft and Motional, and later it will expand its reach to other major US cities. Motional CEO Iagnemma said, “Today’s launch signals we’re on track to deliver a fully driverless service next year.”
The introduction of a driverless ride system for Motional was an incredible launch because it allowed people to get around Las Vegas without the help of any driver. Everything is handled with the help of a specific application starting from unlocking the doors, starting the ride, or needing customer service assistance; all the activities can be operated by the smartphone app. For the last many years, Motional has collected customer feedback with the purpose of refining and improving its riders’ experience.
As per Lyft, “Building an experience that Lyft riders love is core to advancing this technology, and this launch facilitates riders’ access to Motional’s autonomous technology that feels seamless, familiar, and personalized, all on a network they already trust. The company is designing an autonomous experience where the only expectation for riders is to make the relaxation and enjoy the ride.”
The company, Motional, was founded in the year 2020 by the collaborative efforts of Hyundai and Aptiv. This is one of the global technology companies that develops safer, greener, and more connected solutions enabling a more sustainable future of mobility.
Fully driverless service will begin in 2023 in Las Vegas and eventually expand to other U.S. cities. Motional has worked with various Las Vegas partners in its projects, such as the Innovation District by the City of Las Vegas, City of Las Vegas, Clark County, and the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada.
One of the groundbreaking inventions was the introduction of the Hyundai IONIQ 5. It is also the next milestone goal to scale their driverless service to other U.S. cities beginning in 2023.
