Maharashtra Pioneers India’s First AI University to Strengthen Innovation

Maharashtra has lately taken a major step with an aim to shape the future of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in India. It has announced to establish the first-ever AI university in the country. It is an ambitious project and believe to position the state as a global leader in AI education, research as well as innovation.

State Information Technology Minister Ashish Shelar announced the creation of a task force dedicated to the planning and implementation of the groundbreaking initiative. The university is to focus on AI and its related fields. It is to serve as a center of excellence that promotes research, technological innovation and skill development.

The task force responsible for bringing such vision to life is a diverse group that includes experts from academia, industry and government. It is chaired by the principal secretary of the IT department and the task force features influential members such as the directors of IIT Mumbai and IIM Mumbai along with representatives from leading organizations like Google India, Mahindra Group and L&T. Officials from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and experts from the Rajiv Gandhi Science and Technology Commission and the Data Security Council of India are also involved.

Formation of the task force and its efforts toward creating the university are already making waves equipped with the team that has met twice to finalize the roadmap for the institution.

The decision of Maharashtra to set up an AI university is believed to be a strategic move and will contribute to India’s technological advancements as well as position the state as a leader in the global AI space.
