The Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) organized a transformative event earlier this year in New Delhi. It was the SUFALAM Conclave and held between February 13 and 14, 2024. The event aimed to strengthen the startups within the food processing sector and provide them a platform to showcase their innovative products and ideas. SUFALAM stands for Startup Forum for Aspiring Leaders and Mentors.

The event featured a plethora of activities which were designed to benefit the startups. Knowledge sessions and panel discussions offered insights into industry trends. Simultaneously, networking and pitching sessions provided opportunities for them to connect with potential investors and partners. Apart from all these, an exhibition allowed them to display their products to gain attention of industry stakeholders.

The support of MoFPI extends beyond just organizing events. The ministry has been instrumental in nurturing 38 startups through National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship & Management, Kundli, Haryana (NIFTEM-K), and National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship & Management, Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu (NIFTEM-T). Six standout winners from last year’s National Level Startup Grand Challenge were recognized as well as rewarded with a cash prize of Rs. 3 lakh each.

The support provided by NIFTEM-K and NIFTEM-T includes handholding assistance, mentorship, training and access to state-of-the-art facilities such as Pilot Plants and NABL-accredited Food Testing Labs. The institutions simultaneously offered incubation services, quality testing, R&D support and networking opportunities.

The selected startups are now making significant strides with innovations and advanced technologies in the food and allied sectors. It is learned that they are developing value-added products. Their efforts are strengthening entrepreneurship. They are also creating job opportunities for many.
