Mukesh Ambani is now setting his sights on disrupting the tech market once again. He is reportedly planning to launch a budget-friendly laptop priced at Rs 15,000 through his conglomerate, Reliance Jio.
Ambani’s strategy involves leveraging the power of the cloud to drastically reduce the ownership cost of the proposed laptop. Reliance Jio is talking to big laptop companies like HP, Acer, Lenovo and more to bring out a new laptop in the next few months.
What makes this laptop different is the cool way it does computer stuff. Instead of relying on the traditional model where the device houses both processing power and storage, Ambani’s vision involves the laptop serving as a “dumb terminal,” with the actual processing and storage taking place on Jio Cloud, the cloud computing service offered by Reliance Jio. Using the cloud to run things is expected to make this laptop way cheaper. That is good news for people buying their first laptop.
With Jio Cloud, you can get lots of subscriptions on just one laptop, making it even more popular. While the company has not officially confirmed details about the upcoming laptop, trials are reportedly underway using HP Chromebook.
Notably, this move follows the introduction of the JioBook, priced at Rs 16,499, which runs on JioOS. The JioBook features a MediaTek chipset, 4GB RAM, and 64GB of storage, with an option for expansion. Additionally, buyers receive 100GB of free cloud storage. Weighing just 990 grams and available in Grey and Blue, the device showcases Ambani’s commitment to providing affordable and innovative solutions in the Indian tech market.
