Bengaluru-based deeptech startup Theranautilus has lately secured $1.2 million in seed funding led by Pi Ventures to come up with innovation in dental care. Contributions were also made from Golden Sparrow Ventures and angel investors like Tracxn CEO Abhishek Goyal and Groww CEO Lalit Keshre.
Theranautilus was founded in 2020 and incubated at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc). It is reimagining dental treatments by using tiny nanorobots to navigate dental tissues and deliver materials to repair damage. The approach is innovative and offers a long-lasting solution through a quick as well as non-invasive procedure of just 10 minutes.
The nanorobots form structures to mimic natural tissue and it represents a new frontier in dental care. The technology holds promise for other medical applications too including cancer treatments.
The fresh funding is said to help Theranautilus in scaling up production capabilities and establish an ISO-certified manufacturing facility to produce nanorobots on an industrial scale. The startup is also aiming to expand intellectual property portfolio by filing new international patents.
The vision of Theranautilus is ambitious and it is to move beyond laboratory-scale production and bring technology to real-world applications. CEO, Dr. Peddi Shanmukh Srinivas said that scaling up production and creating devices to control the nanorobots within human body are the next big challenges.
Investors like Pi Ventures that the new technology has the potential to transform global dental industry.
The funding is to impact the dental care industry and even various other areas of medicine. It is to reflect the power of innovation and simultaneously the possibilities of technology in improving human lives.
