Ousted OpenAI CEO Sam Altman Gears Up for New AI Endeavor

Following his recent departure as the CEO of OpenAI, Sam Altman is already immersed in a new venture within the artificial intelligence (AI) domain. People close to him say that Sam Altman is busy launching a new AI project and it looks like he is got backing from Greg Brockman, the ex-president of OpenAI who too left when Altman did.

Details of the new project are yet to be learned, but it looks like Brockman will play a major role in it.

Notably, the recent shakeup at OpenAI resulting in Altman’s exit led to the departure of some researchers including Szymon Sidor. It is yet to learn whether researchers like Szymon Sidor will join his new AI project.

It is interesting that Altman talked with Jony Ive, Apple’s ex-design chief, about making a new AI hardware device. In September, reports said that Masayoshi Son, the CEO of SoftBank, was also involved in these talks.

The decision by OpenAI’s board, responsible for the popular product ChatGPT, to oust Altman on Friday raised eyebrows. The departure of co-founder Greg Brockman closely followed Altman’s exit. In an internal company memo viewed by Reuters, Chief Operating Officer Brad Lightcap clarified that Altman’s removal stemmed from a “breakdown of communications” rather than any “malfeasance.” As Altman embarks on his new AI journey, the industry awaits further details on the nature and scope of his upcoming venture. Excitement is building because Altman’s AI know-how is likely to bring innovation in this new phase.
