Arunachal Pradesh is hitting the headlines with its support to agriculture startups lately. It hosted this week an Agri Startup Grant Disbursement Ceremony in Pasighat equipped with distribution of ₹48.80 lakhs among 14 innovative startups.
The ceremony was held at the College of Horticulture and Forestry under a collaborative effort led by the RKVY-RAFTAAR Agribusiness Incubator (CHF R-ABI). It was about distribution of money and also about an initiative to inspire as well as support entrepreneurs in agriculture and allied sectors. The event witnessed more than 80 participants including academics, scientists and farmers.
Some of the selected startups were Esem Organic LLP and Wakro Organic Tea Farm LLP. They deal in segments like organic farming, biotech and beverage production. The startups showed that traditional agriculture can be reimagined with innovation. The financial backing is believed to help them in their growth and creating jobs.
The initiative stands out for its alignment with RKVY-RAFTAAR’s broader mission. It has a clear goal of making farming profitable, reduce risks for farmers and encourage agribusiness entrepreneurship. The mission was launched in 2007 and later revamped in 2018-19. The scheme provides funding and also flexibility. It empowers the states to execute region-specific strategies. The focus of Arunachal on youth-driven startups is a perfect fit for the vision.
However, startups in the Northeast often face hurdles like limited market access, logistical difficulties and a lack of consistent mentorship. Grants like these provide a good foundation, continuous training support, networking opportunities and market linkage.
Agriculture is often viewed as traditional and stagnant, but holds immense potential for innovation. Supporting young entrepreneurs means investing in the economy and also in the people. It is an encouraging step by the state and need sustained effort as well as commitment.
