A startup from Punjab is lately making the waves. It is Fuma Labs Pvt Ltd and operating as Craste. It is supported by Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) that comes under the Punjab Agri-Business Incubator (PABI). It has been granted a patent for innovative “Process for Treatment of Biomass for Pulping and Biorefinery Application.”
It is a major step forward by Craste in sustainable technology equipped with great potential for agriculture and industry. It has developed a process that converts agricultural biomass into valuable products for pulping and biorefinery applications. The method is said to improve biomass utilization and simultaneously support global sustainability goals as waste could be reduced and renewable resources could be promoted.
PAU Vice-Chancellor Dr. Satbir Singh Gosal praised the development and emphasized its environmental and economic benefits.
Dr. TS Riar, Principal Investigator at PABI, congratulated the entire team of PABI for immense hard work in guiding the startup. He said that the patent awarded to Craste shows innovative potential emerging from our country. The process can transform agricultural waste into valuable resources. The process wil also support sustainable development and emerge as a good help for the farmers.
Dr. Poonam Sachdev, Co-PI of PABI, highlighted the scientific as well as practical impact of the process. She said that the innovation of Craste is set to revolutionize agricultural biomass treatment and also create new opportunities for the pulp and biorefinery industries. It highlights the importance of IPR framework to support innovative startups.
Er. Karanvir Gill, Business Manager at PABI, talked about the broader impact of intellectual property rights (IPR) for startups. He said that securing a patent is crucial for any startup and particularly in sustainable technologies.
