Qualcomm which is the largest chip maker enterprise on last Wednesday added a new mobile platform to its series of Snapdragon 600, which is the Snapdragon 670. The new chipset is mainly designed for mid-range phones and to deliver cutting-edge latest technologies to mainstream smartphone buyers, according to the company officials claims. The Snapdragon 670 SoC comes up with some of the advanced features like Qualcomm Kryo CPU, Qualcomm Spectra ISP, Qualcomm AI Engine, and Snapdragon X12 LTE modem.
By using the Snapdragon 670 chipset, Qualcomm is aiming to bring flagship features which is going to make affordable smartphones. According to a Qualcomm “This new mobile platform will going to provide a new OEMs freedom which in turn also add more features and experiment with different set of mobile device sizes than with our previous generations. For consumers, this means more options to choose from, depending on what suits their needs,”.
The Snapdragon 670 SoC packs Kryo 360 CPU and uses two performance cores (of up to 2.0GHz) and six efficiency cores (of up to 1.7GHz). Qualcomm says that the Kryo CPU is designed in such a way so that it can deliver up to 15 per cent higher performance than its predecessor chipsets, and with the aim to increase the battery life as well.
The smartphones which will run on the new chipset may comes with a new feature that is near real-time responsiveness, improved privacy, and more enhanced reliability which will even when the device lacks a network connection. “the company has said that our new AI Engine offers an extensive array of frameworks which will provide developers a variety of choices to create better apps and immersive multimedia. This includes a wide range of tools, including the Qualcomm Neural Processing SDK and Hexagon Neural Network (NN). Additionally, it supports Caffe, Caffe2, TensorFlow, TensorFlowLite, and ONNX (Open Neural Network Exchange),” Qualcomm executive explained in a statement.
Qualcomm has announced that commercial devices which is running on the new chipset will going to be released commercially by the end of December this year.
