Hyderabad is positioning itself to be a major player in the global artificial intelligence (AI) segment. Thanks to the ambitious vision of Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. His master plan to develop an AI City near Hyderabad is a bold statement and the city is ready to lead in AI innovation, research as well as infrastructure development.
The vision of Reddy is in fact already taking shape as Telangana has signed 26 memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with various companies and startups. The tech ecosystem of Hyderabad is highly evolving equipped with a strong base of engineering colleges, tech startups and major players like Tata Consultancy Services (TCS).
TCS president V. Rajanna said that Hyderabad produces more than 90,000 engineers annually from its numerous institutions.
There are some challenges abreast of success stories of the city and it is not just limited to infrastructure or talent. The other significant challenges are timing and execution of projects. India has started making significant moves to catch up. Initiatives like the National AI Mission aim to improve the computing power of India with plans for 50,000 GPUs in the period of next few years.
Hyderabad needs to maintain a laser focus on implementation. Delays in setting up the necessary infrastructure or integrating AI into government services could slow the momentum.
Hyderabad AI City has the potential to become a global leader in AI, but the success depends on something more than just bold plans. It requires coordinated effort across industries, timely execution and continuous nurturing of talent too. The city could become the cradle of AI innovation with the right focus of course.
