Robotics Startup Partners Designer Yves Béhar to Launch Home Care Humanoid

The world is steadily advancing toward AI-powered solutions for every facet of life and the concept of a home care robot offers a refreshing alternative. A small robotics startup Kind Humanoid has teamed up with visionary designer Yves Béhar to create a humanoid robot Mona equipped with empathetic design.

Kind Humanoid has a mission to bring robots into our homes without the uncanny feeling often associated with humanoid machines. The artistic touch of Béhar is evident in Mona’s distinctive design featuring a diamond-shaped head and a screen displaying a serene. It is a tribute to surrealist painter René Magritte and the imagery aims to convey subtle cues about its powerful thought process or emotional state.

The design philosophy of Mona reflects an understanding that users benefit most from a robot that is purposefully abstract rather than excessively human. Béhar said that they have used the background images of clouds to find ways to communicate the intent of the robot.

The focus of Kind is on home care applications and it represents a strategic as well as socially impactful choice. Industrial robots dominate factories and warehouses with their specialized tasks but Kind sees home environments as the next frontier for humanoids.

AI and robotics today are often driven by capital and scale, but the approach of Kind is refreshingly grounded. It has plans to build an initial batch of Mona robots for field testing and the strategy highlights a commitment to innovation that prioritizes user needs as well as capital efficiency over rapid expansion. Founder Kohstall said that their team is focused on the innovation part and it is not something to solve by just throwing money at it.
