Semantic Data Planes Redefining Data Management Landscape

Managing data is not an easy task. There is a plethora of business houses which are struggling with effective data management even though technology has been upgraded with the rise of artificial intelligence (AI) and other related tools. A study reveals a majority of IT experts acknowledge the value of data, but only a small fraction of them report having a strong data management strategy in place. This highlights the need for a solution that bridges the gap between recognizing the importance of data and effectively managing the data.

However, there is a solution to it. Semantic data plane is believed to be a promising solution and it basically aims to address core data management issues. It serves as a structured data fabric that supports various data functions such as data virtualization, distributed query processing and local data transformations.

Effective data management should always focus on solving business problems and thereafter driving value to it. However, it has been witnessed that data management often falls short in meeting business needs. It is suggested that the teams need to focus on what data is required, who needs access to it and simultaneously how quickly it can be obtained to address unforeseen business challenges.

The semantic data plane has simplified this process. It allows users to focus on the content and meaning of data. Data sets remain accessible with the help of data virtualization even if these are moved. It ensures continuity in business operations.

It is important here to note that access to the right data is crucial for modern data management systems and it should be regardless of location or format. Poorly managed data often leads to dark data and this remains unused for business purposes.
