Startup Ready to Launch, Could be an Annual Fixture

India is gearing up for an exciting event. It is Startup Mahakumbh and known to be a first-ever three-day startup extravaganza in the country. It is set to kick off on Monday at Bharat Mandapam in Delhi. It may soon become a regular fixture on the calendar.

Rajesh Kumar Singh, Secretary of the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), said India is currently positioned at 40th place in the world in terms of innovation and the goal of the event is to climb higher. The three-day Startup Mahakumbh event is going to be a significant event and believed to be strengthening the growth of India’s startup ecosystem.

Sanjiv Singh, a joint secretary in DPIIT, emphasized that such events are integral to the government’s mission of making India the top startup hub in the world. He highlighted a couple of government initiatives in the segment including the Bharat Startup Ecosystem Registry, which is designed to bolster the startup scene.

The event is jointly organized by some leading industry bodies like ASSOCHAM, NASSCOM, Bootstrap Incubation & Advisory Foundation, TiE, and Indian Venture and Alternate Capital Association (IVCA). It is expected to draw more than 2,000 startups and at least 1,000 investors. Moreover, about 300 incubators and accelerators along with over 3,000 future entrepreneurs from various states are learned to be taking part.

Sanjay Nayar, Senior Vice President of ASSOCHAM, said Startup Mahakumbh serves as a melting pot by bringing funders as well as founders together to cultivate crucial networks for entrepreneurs.

The event is highly promising and topics for discussions include crafting business models, perfecting pitches and devising funding strategies for the growth of startups.
