In a big move to support new ideas and businesses, Tamil Nadu’s MSME Minister T M Anbarasan launched ‘Startup Tamizha,’ a unique TV show about business ideas. It is the creation of StartupTN, the state’s main agency for new businesses. The goal is to highlight and help 50 exciting startups from different fields in Tamil Nadu.
‘Startup Tamizha’ does not just aim for recognition. It is all about providing important money support to help these startups do well. Until now, it got an impressive promise of Rs 200 crore from a group of eager entrepreneurs and angel investors, showing they really believe in Tamil Nadu’s business talent.
Financial support comes from various quarters, with Refex Group leading the charge by committing Rs 100 crore. Dr Velumani of Thyrocare and Pontaq closely follow, contributing Rs 50 crore and Rs 25 crore, respectively. Native Lead Angels is injecting Rs 10 crore, with additional backing from various other investors.
Set to unfold over three seasons, the inaugural season of ‘Startup Tamizha’ is slated for production by February 2024, with plans for broadcast on a popular channel. Brand Avatar, Blue Koi and Refex Capital are working together to smoothly manage and produce the show.
Minister T M Anbarasan highlighted Chief Minister MK Stalin’s proactive role in revitalizing StartupTN, not only to create a conducive climate for the startup ecosystem but also to position Tamil Nadu among the global elite in the startup landscape. The tangible results are already evident, with the number of registered startups from Tamil Nadu soaring from 2,300 in March 2021 to an impressive 7,400.
As ‘Startup Tamizha’ takes center stage, it not only holds the promise of transforming the trajectories of budding entrepreneurs but also solidifies Tamil Nadu’s standing as a crucible of innovation and a beacon for the broader startup community. Beyond mere financial injections, the show embodies a cultural shift, propelling the state into a new era of growth, creativity, and boundless possibilities.
