Sui Blockchain is pushing the boundaries in the world of crypto technology. It is enabling offline transactions by using radio waves. The approach is innovative and could address a critical concern in cryptocurrency. It is usually questioned as to what happens when there is no internet connection. The situation may take place in regions which are prone to power outages or in areas which have limited internet access.
Mysten Labs is the team behind Sui and is lately working on the so-called “internet-less transactions.” Users can send crypto without relying on the web. Co-founder Adeniyi Abiodun said that it can be done through mobile networks and long-distance radio waves. Crypto can even flow in low-connectivity areas.
Sui has successfully tested the method and it has been done by compressing transactions into small packages to send over radio or mobile networks. The next step learned is to integrate the capability into Internet of Things (IoT) devices. This move thereafter may support decentralized physical infrastructure (DePIN) projects. DePINs is a growing sector in Web3 and enable decentralized management of public infrastructure amid offering participants rewards over time.
Abiodun believes that the technology could be applied beyond just payments. It can be extended to rewards systems, coupons and data transfers. The system could revolutionize how people access financial services and especially in the remote areas.
Abiodun added that the goal of Sui is to bridge the digital divide by allowing more people and particularly to those who are without consistent internet access. The project aims to reach unbanked populations and expand access to crypto.
Sui has partnered with Canadian mobile service provider Chip Wireless to test the capabilities. It has plans to target Africa and other such markets.
