The sudden demise of Table Space founder, chairman and CEO Amit Banerji has shocked everyone in the Indian startup community. He was just 45 and at the peak of his career. It is learned that his death was due to a heart attack.

The journey of Banerji was one of vision and determination. He founded Table Space in 2017 seeing an opportunity to redefine the workspace market in India. He focused on providing tailored solutions for large and mid-sized businesses.

His early experiences shaped his entrepreneurial path and this is more inspiring. He graduated in Computer Science from Punjab Technical University and spent more than a decade at Accenture. He was mastering real estate strategy and operations in the company.

Table Space witnessed a huge growth under his leadership and was also backed by Hillhouse Capital, a company that is currently paving the path for an IPO this year with a target valuation of USD 2.5 billion.

His contributions were not only in his company, but he was also a thought leader in commercial real estate holding patents. He was pioneering innovative approaches to SEZ deal structuring.

His sudden demise highlights a worrying trend in India’s startup ecosystem. A couple of more such leaders passed away in recent years due to cardiac-related issues. Rohan Mirchandani from Epigamia and Ambareesh Murty from Pepperfry are some of the names to take a note here. Questions are being raised whether the leaders are undergoing through intense pressures while building successful companies.

The loss of Amit Banerji is a stark reminder of the way fragile life can be.
