Entrepreneurial spirit in Tamil Nadu is getting a significant boost. Thanks to a series of forward-thinking initiatives introduced by the state government. Lately it has launched a special seed fund and particularly dedicated to support such startups which are led by persons with disabilities and transgender individuals. This initiative was announced by Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises T.M. Anbarasan.
The Rs 50 lakh seed fund will be provided as a grant to the startups to help them bring innovative ideas to life. The inclusive approach is believed to empower marginalized communities and simultaneously enrich the entrepreneurial landscape. The Tamil Nadu Startup and Innovation Mission (StartupTN) will play an important role in identifying as well as supporting the beneficiaries of the scheme.
Tamil Nadu is also investing in the expansion of regional startup hubs in Coimbatore and Tiruchi. The investment amount is learned to be Rs 1.5 crore. The new hubs will join the existing network of hubs in Madurai, Tirunelveli, Erode, Salem, Hosur, Cuddalore and Thanjavur.
The Tamil Nadu government has also announced establishment of Global Startup Coordination Centres in Singapore and the U.S. with an investment of Rs 1 crore. The centres will mainly focus in facilitating the international expansion of Tamil Nadu-registered startups. Hence, the startups will be providing with the required support and connections to penetrate global markets.
Innovation in product design is simultaneously getting a boost with the creation of Thozhil Nayam design studio at StartupTN’s Chennai office. It is backed by an investment of Rs 1 crore. It will assist startups in refining their product designs and enhancing their market appeal.
The second edition of the Tamil Nadu Startup Thiruvizha is set to be held in Madurai. It will continue to promote new-age entrepreneurship.
