The tweet twitted by Elon Musk stated that Twitter would instate a ‘Content Moderation Council’ which will be comprised of people with ‘widely diverse viewpoints. The major functionality of this council will be to consider unblocking the accounts of permanently suspended people. Regardless of the decisions related to content moderation or reinstating blocked accounts, all will be made without the council’s involvement, as per Musk’s tweet. It has been suggested that the rumour of unblocking the accounts of controversial users, potentially including former US President Donald Trump, will not happen suddenly and also have a lease chance. Previously, Musk indicated that he considers the banning of accounts as a commitment to free speech and Twitter as a digital “public square”.
With widely diverse viewpoints, Twitter will be forming a content moderation council.
Before the council’s assembly, no major content decisions or account reinstatements will occur.
Elon Musk as @elonmusk
Elon Musk took ownership of Twitter last week. Right after signing the deal, he laid-off top executives such as Twitter Chief Executive Parag Agrawal, Chief Financial Officer Ned Segal and legal affairs and policy chief Vijaya Gadde. People familiar with the matter have accused them of misleading him and Twitter investors over the number of fake accounts on the platform.
Elon Musk tweeted that “The bird is freed,” soon after completing his acquisition, he was trying to reference Twitter’s bird logo in an apparent nod to his desire to visualize the company’s limitations.
Elon Musk, the CEO of electric car maker Tesla and self-described free speech absolutist, has mentioned that he desires to prevent the platform from being an echo chamber for hate and division.
Among the lists of goals, he also has the motive to defeat spam bots available on Twitter and make the algorithms that determine how content is presented to its users publicly available.
However, Musk still needs to reveal the details of how he will achieve all this and who will run the company in the future.
