Uber and Nasscom AI have jointly launched the ‘Uber Sustainovate’ startup challenge. It is said to be a visionary initiative set to expedite India’s shift towards sustainable mobility. The challenge invites applications from innovative startups nationwide and the primary aim is to recognize as well as reward solutions that advance sustainable transportation in the country.
The winning startup will receive a grant of $120,000, which is about Rs 1 crore. The top three entries will gain mentorship from Uber’s tech leaders in India. The evaluation of the applications will be done by Uber and Nasscom. The shortlisted ones will face a distinguished jury panel.
The challenge addresses four key facets of sustainable mobility in India. Firstly, it focuses on incentivizing electric vehicle (EV) ownership for drivers and fleet owners with innovative financing models. Secondly, it aims to optimize asset use by enhancing ride-sharing solutions and refining fleet management in the context of EVs.
The challenge also addresses the shortage of charging infrastructure for electric vehicles, aiming to strengthen tech-driven innovations that further strengthen the nation’s EV charging network. Lastly, it emphasizes the need for seamless discovery and interoperability of charging infrastructure and sustainable mobility assets as well as encouraging ideas that utilize data analytics and predictive maintenance to boost efficiency.
Startups across India recognized by DPIIT are invited to participate in the ‘Uber Sustainovate’ challenge. They can do so by simply submitting their solutions. The challenge spans multiple stages, from idea presentation to prototype development, with a focus on alignment with Uber’s sustainability mission. The submission deadline is October 18, 2023 and it will be followed by rounds of evaluation based on innovation, feasibility and sustainability alignment as well.
