Access to clean water is increasingly becoming critical. Amid such a scenario, Indian WaterTech startup Boon has emerged with promises and has successfully secured $5 million funding in Series A round. The funding is a blend of equity and debt. It was led by Roca Group Ventures. It was a first investment for the group in an Indian startup.
Boon was founded by Vibha Tripathi and Advait Kumar in 2015 and initially was known as Swajal. The startup provides innovative water purification, monitoring and dispensing solutions. It aims to eliminate use of plastic bottles. This is the reason it is offering sustainable packaging for water refilling in the hospitality industry.
The company is also reaching beyond hotels. It serves offices, hospitals, universities, airports and train stations too. The noble cause is also backed by a couple of notable entities including the Department of Science and Technology, Rajasthan State Government, SIDBI, United Nations Development Programme, and the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP).
The new funding will enable Boon in scaling its AI-enabled WaterIoTech platform, which allows water purifiers to monitor water quality in real-time. The advanced technological approach is also a commitment to sustainability. It can position the startup as a revolutionary force in the WaterTech industry.
Co-founder Advait Kumar emphasized the urgency of their mission. He highlighted the pervasive issues of water quality and plastic pollution. He said that water has taken a back seat and seems like we are passive spectators when it comes to water quality, plastic bottles or microplastics in drinking water.
