Hyderabad-based watertech startup Althion has lately raised ₹3.6 crore in a pre-Series A funding round led by BioAngels (part of the IAN Group). Prominent investors such as Arun Seth, Om Manchanda, KNK Venkatraman and Shubham Rastogi also participated in the round.
Althion was founded by Surya Rao in 2017 and its innovative solutions have been instrumental in supporting dialysis centers, biotechnology labs and leading hospitals such as Sir Ganga Ram Hospital and Narayana Hrudayalaya.
The journey of Althion so far reflects a strong commitment to addressing the gaps in high-cost water purification solutions. It is catering to domestic needs and also contributing to the Make in India initiative by offering affordable alternatives. It earlier secured $180,000 in funding from C-CAMP and other sources to establish a foundation for its operations. The latest funding is learned to take its ambitions to the next level. It has future plans to produce 40 units of tabletop laboratory water purification system, expand its manufacturing capacity and enhance R&D efforts. The focus on improving kidney dialysis efficiency and sustainability highlights its intent to drive impactful innovation.
Althion stands out due to its proprietary Althion Remote Monitoring System (ARMS) that ensures predictive as well as preventive maintenance. The technology enhances operational reliability and simultaneously keeps the costs in check. It is an attractive choice for such institutions which are seeking sustainable solutions. It is preparing to seek CE marking and USFDA certification to unlock opportunities in various international markets such as Latin America, Africa and Asia. It has a backing from BIRAC and also a clear vision for the future. It is currently well-positioned to grow presence globally.
