The Open Network for Digital Commerce,or ONDC, is a platform that was recently announced by the government of India with the aim of democratizing e-commerce.
ONDC stands for Open Network for Digital Commerce. It is an open-source platform that aims to transform India's e-commerce market by providing an inclusive and accessible platform for buyers and sellers to conduct transactions.
Benefits vendors will get by selling on the ONDC platform
ONDC provides a level playing field to all vendors, irrespective of their size and scale of operations. Vendors would not have to pay high commissions as is the case with other e-commerce platforms.
The government of India will play a crucial role in establishing and promoting ONDC. The initiative is being driven by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) which operates under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
ONDC could potentially disrupt the current business model of e-commerce platforms like Zomato and Swiggy in India.
