Wheelocity Gains $15M Backing for Major Expansion in India’s Semi-Urban Markets

Chennai-based startup Wheelocity specializes in the fresh and grocery B2C supply chain and now is on a mission to reshape the way rural India access essential goods. It has lately succeeded in getting a funding of $15 million led by existing investor Lightspeed. The other participants were Alteria Capital, Anicut Capital and founder contributions. The fresh funds is said to be driving expansion of the company and enhancing its operations, technology as well as teams across southern India.

Wheelocity was founded in 2022 and operates in more than 3,500 towns and villages across Tamil Nadu. It is now planning to scale presence to reach approximately 20,000 villages over the next 12-14 months. Its vision is to serve the often-overlooked segments of India’s consumer base and provide fresh as well as essential grocery items through a streamlined delivery network.

The rural economy in India often witnesses supply chain challenges and hinder access to goods. The approach of Wheelocity brings a promising solution with a focus on fresh produce and groceries. It reflects a broader recognition of the potential these regions hold in driving economic growth.

Wheelocity founder and CEO Selvam VMS emphasized that the new funding will support expansion and also to be used to strengthen the technological infrastructure as well as operational capabilities of the company.
