Wikipedia Introduces First Desktop Redesign in a Decade 1

Wikipedia has recently made an introduction to a desktop interface redesign. The update is about the redesign for Wikipedia’s desktop interface. The update comes as the non-profit online encyclopedia marks the English-language Wikipedia’s 22nd anniversary. The redesign is introduced in such a way that it can be seen as more user-friendly and facilitates an intuitive reading experience for all desktop users. It also adds a new persistent Table of Contents menu, which depicts the users about the section they are currently reading while remaining visible as they scroll down the page to make navigation to different sections.

Sources told that the redesign of its desktop interface, Wikipedia desktop users will be introduced to an improved search experience that allows users to leverage images and make the descriptions to find articles on the free online encyclopedia, which can be further claimed by the organization that leads to a 30 % increase in user searches.

The redesign also inherits the language-switching tools that are very easy and prominent to access on the user interface. The interface allows the users to switch between over 300 supported languages.

Over the newly introduced Wikipedia desktop interface, it has been highlighted that it now follows a sticky header format that moves with the user as they scroll down or up an article. By this, the organizational claims have reduced the scroll rate by more than 15% during user testing.

The table of contents allows the users to have quick navigation between article sub-headers and topics. This will be accessible on the left-hand side of a user’s screen, allowing for easier and quicker in-article navigation.

As per the confirmation of the organization, the latest redesign does not remove any previous functionality, and it only introduces an easier, smoother experience for readers. The non-profitable organization have noted that it has worked with 30 different volunteer groups that belonged to the world, including from India, Indonesia, Ghana, and Argentina.

The confirmations also said that Wikipedia, in its press release, redesigned the launch to about 94% of the 318 active language versions of Wikipedia for all desktop users.
