Women-Led Startup Reshaping Pune's Corporate Sector

Mentors play crucial roles in the success of corporate world and it is a common belief that only beginners and mid-level executives benefit from the mentorships. However, Mentor My Board (MMB) founders Divya Momaya and Neha Shah lately revealed that directors and senior members simultaneously require mentorship.

The Ministry of Corporate Affairs disqualified over two lakh directors under section 164 (2) of the Companies Act, 2013 in September 2017 as the companies failed to file financial statements or annual returns for three consecutive years. It highlighted lack of governance awareness among the directors.

Startup MMB was founded in 2018. It recognized the gap and emerged to educate founders, promoters and board members as well about good governance practices. Momaya, a company secretary, and Shah, an experienced HR professional, established the company to guide business leaders in ethical and progressive leadership. The primary goal is to equip leaders with the insights needed to make boardrooms more competitive.

MMB hosted a Directors’ Meet in Pune in 2023 and aimed to expose business leaders to new ideas, real-world board challenges and growth strategies. The event outside its home city involved learning, collaboration and critical leadership reviews. The startup also hosted a similar event later in Bengaluru.

Momaya said that they are setting up a small community in Pune to share best practices on a common platform. The startup currently has seven mentors in Pune along with a community of up to 30 people to learn together.

Pune is one of the leading startup hubs in India. It has a plethora of traditional businesses transitioning to younger family members. Many of the new leaders want to align their businesses with global practices. MMB is supporting the startups in the city to help them create advisory boards.
