Startup Ebb Carbon Fights Climate Change with Ocean Innovation

California startup Ebb Carbon has a different process to combat climate change. It is utilizing the power of the ocean to achieve its goal. It is learned would be constructing a significant carbon capture plant in Washington state to make a tangible impact in the fight against global warming.

The startup involves something more than simply reducing carbon emissions. According to climate experts, it is the need to remove carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere and thereafter to store it securely to mitigate the effects of climate change.

The approach of Ebb Carbon differs from that of traditional methods. It is not trying to extract CO2 from the air with the use of machines. Instead, its plan is to leverage the natural capacity of the ocean. Current data reveals the ocean absorbs about 30% of the CO2 generated by human activities. However, it cannot absorb 100 percent as there is a limit before it begins to negatively impact marine life.

Ebb Carbon has come up with a specialized system that is designed to integrate with existing facilities like ocean research labs or desalination plants. It enhances the ability of the ocean to absorb CO2 as well as reduce its acidity too. This is something very crucial for the well-being of marine ecosystems.

Ebb Carbon is conducting tests on a smaller-scale version with an aim to extend it far beyond this. It has plans to build a larger plant in Port Angeles, WA, which could increase the capacity of ocean to absorb CO2. The focus is to make it 500 tonnes annually.

As of now, it seems the initiative of Ebb Carbon is promising. It is ensuring safety as well as effectiveness.
